A TRIBUTE TO THE IRON MAN OF INDIA
Great things are
considered to be at heights touching the sky. To reach those great heights, a
person needs to have a great depth. And from your struggle for others, you can
be one among those great things letting people see the height you have reached. One such person is Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai
Patel popularly known as Sardar Patel who served as the first Deputy Prime
Minister of India. He was an Indian barrister and statesman, a senior leader of
the Indian National Congress and a founding father of the Republic of India who
played a leading role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its
integration into a united, independent nation. He was the barrister from
Gujarat who was at first reluctant to join politics but went on to become one
of the architects of modern India. The title ‘Iron Man of India’ was given to
Sardar Patel for successfully persuading over 500 princely states to accede to
the Independent Indian union.
As a tribute and sign of remembrance
for his struggle and great works for Independent India who should never be left
unsung, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inked the contract on October 7th
2013, to lay a foundation for constructing a statue of unity, which had
commenced on October 31, 2013 during his service as the Chief Minister for
Gujarat. And its completion and inauguration, exactly 5 years later on October
31, is being seen as the beginning of Modi’s campaign for a second term general
election.
Build near the Sardar Sarovar dam
in tribal-dominated Narmada district 200 km from Ahmedabad. The Statue of Unity
stands at more than double the 93 meters statue of liberty of the coast of
NewYork City. It is 4 times the statue of Christ the redeemer re-addition
arrow. The base of the statue is at the stupendous height of 240 meters, the
base includes a memorial, a visitor center, a convention center, a garden, and
an amusement park.
It was said that the
statue will also stand tall for historical, academic, national and spiritual
values. It will be the first such big project in any tribal part of India and
dedicated to subjects close to Sardar Saab – unity, good governance, and
agriculture,” said by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while making the plan known
to the public.
The statue was built by a
public-private partnership model, with most of the money raised and funded by
the Government of Gujarat. The Gujarat state government had allotted ₹6 billion (US$84 million)
for the project in the budget from 2012 to 2015. In the 2014–15 Union Budget, ₹2 billion (US$28 million)
were allocated for the construction of the statue. Funds were also contributed
by PSUs under CSR scheme.
