We as the human beings of the 21st century are more into the technology such as phones and laptops/PC’S rather than showing a little interest in the world around us. Henceforth, we are more likely to know any changes that pop up or get an update in today’s world which happens through technology as well.

It is now, the company has redesigned the icons after its last design in 2003 with the release of office. Since then, Microsoft has focused on making the software suite an internet-connected cloud service which works on smartphones and tablets, along with the PCs. Besides, the tech giant has also been infusing Office with more AI-powered search and suggestion features. So, now with a cloud-oriented and enterprise approach, Microsoft has announced a visual redesign for its icons to reflect just that.

The newly designed icons have been rolled out for Office 365 apps including Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel,

PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, Teams, Skype, and Yammer.

It has been said that Colors are used to differentiate apps and to create a personality, whereas for the new icons hues have been chosen to embrace the history of the office by giving them the bolder, lighter and friendlier look by Jon Friedman, head of Microsoft Office design.

He also stated that while each of the icons has a “unique and identifiable symbol”, all of them are connected to form a collective suite.

The major changes that have been made are the letters and the symbols which are decoupled to create two panels instead of one which will soon roll out in few months with mobiles followed by the Web adding depth to the icon design, helping in possible future 3D implementation.

It was also said that the change in the document outline in Microsoft Word and the spreadsheet outline in Excel will make way for lines of text in the Word icon and individual cells in the Excel icon.

To end up this blog with an interesting note, the Microsoft has changed the letter-to-symbol ratio to emphasize the symbol instead of the letter in each Office 365 app icon because the letter represents the tool itself and the symbol speaks more to people’s creations.”
